Abstract

The purpose of this communication is to present some pointers that comprise a comparative study between a set icons present in the Monastery of St. Catherine (Sinai, Egypt), dating from the twelfth century and a set of stained glass windows of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Chartres (Eure-Loire, France), also dating from the twelfth century. We chose a set of images that have the same theme and so, we make a comparative analysis, which involves the composition of images, their structure and iconographic tradition, as well as the theological and doctrinal approach that evolve. The methodological approach seeks to raise the points of contact and distance that the two iconographic traditions present, since they are embedded not only in representations of Christian art, but also present in the epicenter of a political and religious history of great intensity, resulting in tensions involving the consecration of orthodoxy or their questions within Christianity.
