Abstract

Sunday as the Lord’s Day is reserved for the celebration and experience of the Paschal Mystery of Christ. Being a festive day, it contains a strong eschatological sense, especially expressed in the liturgical texts. However, it is necessary to emphasize its significance as a day that prepares for eternity and the imminent coming of the Lord through the euchologies offered by the current Roman Missal. This article seeks to provide an analysis of the centrality of Sunday in its close relationship with the eschatological dimension present in Preface IX for Ordinary Time, in Brazilian edition. The methodology employed involves documentary bibliographic research based on magisterial documents, emphasizing the points addressed by relevant authors on the subject. The celebration of Dies Domini through the Sunday liturgical assembly highlights the Mystery of this day even more; furthermore, it foreshadows and anticipates the future reality, where amidst joys and rest, the happy hope of contemplating the face of God is nourished. It is concluded by affirming that the rich meaning that underlies the entire Lord’s Day must be pastorally renewed so that Sunday celebrations can be well-prepared as an expression of the believed, celebrated, and lived Mystery of Christ that we already anticipate in the Church’s worship.
