The contraposition between nature and person in Eastern and Western Trinitarian theology, according to Paul Evdokimov

Abstract

The Trinitarian debate was present in the first centuries of Christianity. Defend Christianity in the face of accusations of tritheism or denial of the divinity of the Son and of the Holy Spirit as the need arises for a more solid Christian doctrine. According Sesboué the Trinitarian debates continued in the East until the end of the century. V, while the discussion of the terms of the Trinitarian dogma in Western theology extend longer, from Augustine to Thomas Aquinas. Throughout history, many were the authors who attempted to make a synthesis of Eastern trinitarian thinking. Among these authors, is Paul Evdokimov and John Meyendorff. Both among his works, took the time to explain the process of formulation of the dogma of the Trinity in the orthodox thinking. This communication aims to expose, in general, the opposition between the concepts of nature and people in Eastern and Western Trinitarian theology, according to the thought of Paul Evdokimov.
